Path of Exile - Atlas Progression Guide

Complete Atlas Progression Guide: How to Speedrun Your Atlas and Voidstones

Progressing your Atlas efficiently on league start is all about maximizing map sustain, pushing map tiers quickly, and setting up your Atlas passive tree to feed you the right resources at the right time. This guide breaks down the core strategy for clearing your Atlas, acquiring all four Voidstones, and gearing up along the way.

1 The Core Strategy: Prioritize Tiers Over Bonus Objectives

The primary rule of modern Atlas progression is simple: prioritize higher-tier maps over map completion bonuses.
Starting in 3.28, you can put a Tier 16 map into the Map Device to count for lower-tier map completions.
Because red map progression no longer forces you to run heavily corrupted, deadly maps just to make progress, you can run high-tier maps as Magic or Rare without corrupting them right away.

Key Benchmarks During Map Push

  • Rush to Tier 6 Maps: Do not linger in white maps. Reach Tier 6 as fast as possible to unlock Lab Trials that yield your first Offering to the Goddess.

  • Run Uber Lab Early: Run Uber Lab twice early on to boost your main skill gem to 20% quality. For builds using marks like Poacher's Mark or Assassin's Mark, quality provides crucial frenzy or power charge generation on single targets.

  • Build Up Red Maps Safely: Do not corrupt your only Tier 16 map. Keep a small pool of red maps uncorrupted to run safely, building up a base before you start corrupting them for full bonus completion.

2 Voidstone Pathing: The Recommended Route

When pushing the Atlas map, path toward the bosses in a specific order to minimize difficulty and streamline your progression.

Bottom-Left (Eater/Exarch) then Top-Left (Incarnation) then Top-Right (Shaper/Elder) then Bottom-Right (Maven)

  • Bottom-Left First (Eater of Worlds & Searing Exarch): These are the easiest Pinnacle Bosses to defeat and should be your first target for early Voidstones.

  • Top-Left Second (Incarnation of Dread): Path toward the top-left section next to handle this progression phase.

  • Top-Right Third (Shaper & Elder): Path to the top-right for Shaper and Elder Guardians. You no longer need to fight Uber Elder for basic progression, which cuts the required guardian fights in half. If you buy a carry, Uber Elder still counts for both.

  • Bottom-Right Last (The Maven): Maven requires witnessing every non-guardian Shaper map, running the invitations for splinters, and creating a Maven's Rift. Leave this for when your build is fully established.

Eagon Mechanics Note: When you run your first Tier 14 map, Eagon will spawn and generate a questline based on that map and adjacent nodes. Try to hold off on talking to Eagon until you run a T14 in an uncompleted region (like top-right or bottom-right) to trigger quest timelines into maps you still need.

3 Eldritch Altars and Base Crafting

Getting your Searing Exarch Voidstone is a major power spike. Searing Exarch Altars yield consistent "bubblegum" currency (Gemcutter's Prisms, Glassblower's Baubles, Chaos Orbs) that fund early gear and quality upgrades.

Upgrading Gear On High-Tier Bases

Running higher-tier maps drops item level 84 base types. Upgrading to Tier 1 bases provides a massive passive defense boost. For instance, a Necrotic Armor base offers substantially higher base Evasion and Energy Shield compared to mid-tier armor.

Use the Altars to collect Eldritch Ichors and Embers to add implicit modifiers to your gear:

  • Body Armor & Helmets: Physical damage taken as elemental usually beats everything else.

  • Gloves: Exposure on hit, Rage on hit, or Ignite proliferation. Depends on your build.

Do not worry about saving these currencies for perfect endgame items. Applying basic Eldritch implicits to usable ilvl 84 bases gives you the raw stats needed to clear four-stone content easily.

4 Optimal Early Atlas Passive Tree Setup

  • Charge Generation: Grab Jun nodes (Obsessed with Vengeance) for easy minimum Endurance Charges on jewelry.

  • Map Sustain: Take all three Shaping clusters (Mountains, Skies, World) so you can rush map bosses and chain high tiers without running out.

  • 20 Free Points: Allocate Unwavering Vision early for 20 free Atlas points to rush key nodes like Remnants of the Past.

  • Altars & Crafting: Finish by pathing into Searing Exarch nodes.
